It takes a special band to rock a packed dance floor in sweltering heat. On Saturday night we saw two of them at the Festival Gardens.

First up was Soukouss Internationale, the local outfit with an international flavour led by frontman Quentin Thony and guitarist Jamie Searle. WA artists have enjoyed some memorable sets on the Gardens stage this year, but not one has rocked a bigger dance floor than Soukouss.

​

With a sound rooted in African dance music, specifically Congolese styles, it was the moves of Thony alongside three amazing dancers that stole the show.It was still well over 30C but they didn’t show it as they taught us to “make babies on the dance floor but with your clothes on”...
